Joinery firm sizes up new Mercedes-Benz Atego01 October 2018

Door manufacturer Hazlin has taken delivery of a new Mercedes-Benz Atego, with the high-spec 16-tonner replacing an older 12-tonne vehicle.

Supplied by dealer Rygor, the Shropshire-based operator’s new Atego 1627 is powered by a 7.7-litre straight-six engine producing 268bhp and drives through a PowerShift automated transmission. Hazlin has also opted for long-range fuel tanks.

The new addition is set up to pull a drawbar trailer, and has a curtainsider body by Lawrence David along with a 1,500kg Dhollandia full-closure cantilever tail-lift.

Finished with colour-coded bumpers and grille, it also has alloy wheels and an air-conditioned BigSpace L-cab with twin bunks and a night heater.

Hazlin has used Mercedes-Benz vehicles for 25 years. The latest Atego joins two other curtainsiders – a 12-tonne Atego and 26-tonne Actros with rear-steer axle and a roof that can be folded back, concertina-style, for product to be lifted in and out by crane – along with four 3.5-tonne Sprinters and a Vito.

Like the Actros, its new Atego is equipped with forward-, side- and rear-facing cameras from ARK Fleetech, of Rossendale, with the system giving live streaming and tracking.

Chris Jones, managing director, says the business has remained loyal to the marque because of product reliability and superior service.

“The loads we carry vary considerably in size, and the fact that Rygor can supply any vehicle we might need, from the Vito van to our big six-wheeler, is also a significant ‘plus’.”
