Junk-It goes for growth with Euro 5 Fuso Canter 30 June 2011

Waste management and clearance specialist Junk-It (Scotland) has taken delivery of a 'clean, green' 3.5-tonne Fuso Canter.

The new Canter 3C13 is powered by a 130bhp, 3-litre engine that not only meets Euro 5 emissions limits but also the higher EEV (Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle) green vehicle standard.

Junk-It also runs four Euro 4 Canter tippers from its headquarters in Glasgow. These, though, are equipped with large storage boxes mounted immediately behind the cabs and are all on 3,350mm wheelbases, as compared to the 2,500mm length of the latest truck.

"We've gone for the shorter wheelbase this time because Edinburgh is particularly tight for parking, so the extra manoeuvrability is making life a lot easier for our operatives," explains director Ross Martin, who co-founded Junk-It.

"We've lost the big tool store, of course, but to be honest we've found that we don't really need it. So the specification of our new vehicle will be the template for those that follow," he adds.

Martin says the Canter is compact and nimble enough to use on domestic driveways, but adds: "Because you'll also find our vehicles on rough sites, being loaded with timber, metals and other renovation debris, they have to stand up to plenty of wear and tear too."

His comment: "Unlike most 3.5-tonners, the Canter is built like a small truck rather than a van, so is able to withstand a lot of punishment and offer the strength and durability we need."
