Lanes Group mobilises two Mercedes Arocs vacuum tankers19 September 2019

Utility sector operator Lanes Group has added two 32-tonne Mercedes-Benz Arocs vacuum tankers to its 1,000-strong fleet, citing build quality and manoeuvrability.

Supplied by dealer Ciceley Commercials, the Leeds-based operator’s new additions are both 8x4 Arocs 3243 L ENA models, with single front-steer axles, double-drive bogies and rear-steer axles – a configuration that gives a tighter turning circle than a standard construction eight-wheeler.

The Arocs have narrow, 2.3m-wide ClassicSpace cabs and are powered by 10.7-litre, six-cylinder engines, which produce 422bhp and drive through 16-speed PowerShift 3 automated transmissions.

Each has a Cyclovac vacuum cleaning unit, by Dutch bodybuilder KOKS Industry. The units feature a patented self-cleaning mechanism, which is lightweight and fuel efficient.

“The Arocs is an ideal base for these vehicles... The 32-tonne chassis gives us the hefty body and payload allowance we need, and in ENA configuration also offers a high degree of mobility,” says Simon Nicholls, Lanes Group transport manager.

He also cites the vehicle’s safety specification – including Active Brake Assist – and the dealer’s “first-class support”.
