Lorne Stewart builds greener fleet with Mercedes-Benz vans26 May 2017

Building services business Lorne Stewart Engineering has upgraded its fleet with 210 new vans and is reporting a “substantial” reduction in carbon reductions.

Most of the new arrivals are Mercedes-Benz vans, supplied by dealer Bell Truck and Van, and are on contract hire through Transflex Vehicle Hire.

The Harrow-based operator’s new fleet now includes more than 100 Citans and several Sprinter models. All the Citans are 109 CDI models with 90bhp Euro 5 engines, returning up to 65.7 mpg (combined cycle), and the Citans have contributed significantly towards the fleet’s 23% drop in carbon emissions.

Lorne Stewart has assigned its long-bodied Citans to mobile mechanical and electrical engineers. The vehicles have lined cargo areas with racking to carry tools and spares for air conditioning and refrigeration units, boilers and other installations. They are also fitted with roof bars for carrying ladders and pipe tubes.

Paul Booth, Lorne Stewart’s group support services director, says the vans have won praise from drivers and are boosting the company’s image.

“Most importantly, though, their impressive fuel-efficiency has allowed us to achieve a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions, and the process of moving towards an even greener fleet will continue as we start to take on our first Euro 6 models,” he adds.

Lorne Stewart’s Mercedes-Benz vehicles are being maintained within the manufacturer’s official UK dealer network and are backed by three-year, unlimited mileage warranties, as well as MobiloVan cover, which includes emergency roadside assistance.
