Lothian Buses £5 million hybrid bus fleet reaches first birthday 11 September 2012

As of today (September 11 2012), Scotland's fleet of 15 greener double-decker hybrid buses has been serving Edinburgh for one year.

A year after introducing its Alexander-Dennis Enviro 400 hybrid double-decker electric-diesel buses, Lothian Buses says its hybrid buses have saved over 600 tonnes in CO2 emissions but also an estimated £200,000 in running costs.

The hybrid buses, acquired at a cost of £5 million, which included £1 million from the Scottish Government's Green Bus Fund,

"We are very pleased with the fuel efficiency savings being seen with our hybrid buses," comments Dr Steve Johnson, environmental and CSR manager at Lothian Buses.

"Savings in fuel efficiency of over 55%, compared to the buses they replaced, mean that we are taking our responsibility to help Scotland meet its carbon reduction targets very seriously."

Johnson says that Lothian plans to continue to set the standard for greener public transport in Scotland, with a further 10 hybrid buses likely be introduced in early 2013.
