Low deck tractor added to DAF XF range22 April 2013

DAF has introduced a variant of the new Euro 6 XF truck as a low-deck tractor, designed for high-volume continental transport operations.

The new model has a fifth wheel height of 960mm, enabling operation of semi-trailers with an interior height up to the maximum European three metres – and a load volume up to 100m3.

The new XF low-deck tractor unit has air suspension on the rear axle as standard, along with an interesting 'manoeuvring mode'.

The rear of the chassis can rise up to 50mm by pushing a button. DAF explains that this reduces the risk of the chassis and semi-trailer touching each other when driving on or off ferries or loading docks.

For maximum ground clearance, the truck is fitted with 580mm-high aluminium fuel tanks, with a capacity of up to 1,090 litres, again as standard.

It is powered by the 12.9-litre PACCAR MX-13 engine, with ratings of 410bhp, 460bhp and 510bhp. Later this year, the 440bhp version of the new PACCAR MX-11 engine will also become available.

The new tractors are available with both a manual or automatic gearbox and have a wheelbase of 3.6 or 3.8m. There is also the choice of Space Cab or Super Space Cab.
