Lucky for some: 13 Volvo FH vehicles for Dyce Carriers15 June 2017

Dyce Carriers, of Aberdeen, has taken delivery of 13 Volvo FH-500 trucks – 12 of which are 6x2 tractors and one specialised 8x2 rigid fitted with a Fassi 820 crane and drawbar trailer capability.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus North & Scotland’s Aberdeen depot, the operator’s new additions are all Globetrotter XL models equipped with Volvo D13K 500bhp engines, I-Shift automated gearboxes and ADR specifications.

Safety equipment includes a front facing camera and an audible left turn warning device. The tractors have 3,900mm wheelbases, a rear axle ratio of 2.64:1 and Bridgestone tyres. Inside, there are leather seats and a refrigerator, while outside the chassis includes chain trays and a fire box.

Dyce Carriers is a longstanding Volvo customer, with the brand now accounting for most of the 70-strong fleet.

The company has acquired trucks on Volvo’s operating lease since 2011. “The first five Volvo trucks we leased were literally a ‘toe in the water’ to see how it would work from a costing perspective, but now six years down the line, 80% of our fleet is leased,” says director Jason Moir.

“Initially we selected a two-year lease period from Volvo, but the norm now is three years, with a few trucks on four years. Volvo has been very fair with us and we’ve found the whole leasing process straightforward. There is also a much-appreciated clarity regarding return vehicle condition,” he adds.
