MAN Latin America launches dual fuel truck with pure biodiesel04 June 2010

MAN Latin America has supplied three operators with its first trucks capable of running on B100 (100% biodiesel) or regular diesel, using what the company refers to as new dual-fuel technology.

The vehicles, from its heavy Constellation range, have been fitted with two separate tanks (one for biodiesel, which is widely available in Brazil, one for diesel), so they can still be used where DIN EN 14214 biodiesel is not available.

Yvonne Benkert, coporate social responsibility manager for MAN Group, gives little detail but says that an electronic system measures "various parameters", and adjusts the fuel supply from the two tanks via a dosing unit – claiming that this "helps to cut CO2 emissions by up to 90%".

MAN Latin America has been working with the Brazilian Ministry for Research and Technology and the state of Rio de Janeiro since 2003 on biodiesel test programs.

"It is important to develop products that are adapted to the market," says Benkert. "This is the only way to achieve sustainable solutions internationally."
