Matthew Clark cuts costs with fleet upgrade from Ryder 07 August 2013

Ryder has supplied 13 custom-built DAF CF 26-tonne and LF 21-tonne and 18-tonne vehicles to national drinks wholesaler Matthew Clark, as part of a fleet upgrade plan aimed at increasing carrying capacity and reducing costs.

The low-height 6x2 rear-steer rigids, all of which have been fitted with Bevan curtainside bodies, will form part of the 190-vehicle drinks distribution fleet that Ryder supplies to Matthew Clark nationwide.

"We handle more than 15,000 customer deliveries during a typical week so managing operational costs is important," comments Daniel Haddon, Matthew Clark's purchasing controller.

"In partnership with Ryder, we made a detailed evaluation of our delivery patterns, load factors and routes, and concluded that we could make cost-efficiency savings in a number of areas by increasing the carrying capacity of most of our vehicle fleet," he continues.

"In fact, we estimate that we can increase our carrying capacity by 16% by replacing our existing 18- and 12-tonne vehicles with 26- and 21-tonne LGVs."
