Maxilead shows its mettle with two new Volvo additions12 October 2016

Metal recycling business Maxilead Metals has taken delivery of two new Volvo rigids – an FL-250 drawbar skiploader and an FM-410 8x4 hookloader – citing “superb” service from the dealers as key to its decision.

The new additions were supplied by dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials. The FM-410 is an off-road capable N3G specification, with Day cab and X-High chassis fitted with hookloader waste container handling equipment. It has a D11K410 11-litre engine rated at 410bhp, driving through an I-Shift automated gearbox.

The FL-250 24-tonnes GTW drawbar outfit features a 3,700mm wheelbase, Day cab prime mover, equipped with a D8K250, 8-litre, six-cylinder engine rated at 250bhp and ZTO1109, nine-speed manual gearbox.

The FL was chosen for its gross design weight approval for operation at up to 36,000kg gtw. The drawbar coupling is from VBG and the skiploader equipment is Hyvalift, with the two-axle skip trailer built by Swan Commercials of Wigan.

The FL has an additional window in the nearside door to aid visibility of cyclists and pedestrians.

Peter Clay, chairman of Manchester-based Maxilead Metals, says:We have used different makes in the past, but Volvo exceed all others.

“We are lucky to have a great local dealership with fantastic staff and superb customer service... Volvo trucks are always delivered on time and to the correct specification, so we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to other operators.”

Both trucks are on Volvo R&M contracts and will be serviced overnight at the dealer’s Trafford Park depot.
