Supplied by S&B Commercials, of Thurrock, the Essex-based operator’s new addition is an Arocs 3363 with StreamSpace cab and 15.6-litre engine producing 625bhp. Its 16-speed Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated gearbox incorporates EcoRoll for enhanced economy and a Creep function for low-speed manoeuvrability.
Tamdown specified the Safety Pack, which includes several features, notably the fourth-generation Active Brake Assist. Introduced this spring in the UK, ABA4 incorporates pedestrian recognition technology and applies partial braking while giving acoustic and visual warnings.
Tamdown works primarily in and around London, so protection of vulnerable road users was high on its agenda.
“We were persuaded ... by the reassuring armoury of advanced safety technology with which we have been able to equip our new Arocs,” confirm Mark Cain, Tamdown’s plant and procurement director.
“We were also persuaded by the promise of a significant improvement in diesel returns compared to our previous heavy haulage unit – a promise which I’m happy to say the Arocs is already delivering on – and the highly cost-effective contract hire package which we were offered.”
The Arocs is pulling a twin rear-steer low-loader trailer, transporting excavators, dumpers, crushers and screeners.
