Mercedes-Benz Atego has seven Euro 6 engine options 11 February 2013

Mercedes-Benz's new Atego truck, which caters for the 6.5 to 16-tonne gvw short-radius distribution sector, has now been launched with a new drive system.

In total, seven Euro 6 engine variants are available, combined with a range of manual and automatic transmissions.

Four of the engines come courtesy of the BlueTec 6 four-cylinder range from the OM 934 series. These 5.1-litre units, with four-valve engines and two overhead camshafts with adjustable valve timing, range in power from 156bhp to 231bhp.

As additional options, three new six-cylinder OM 936 engines have been designed, with outputs ranging from 238bhp to 299bhp, and a displacement of 7.7-litres.

The drive system design of the new Atego includes integrated stability control assist (ESP) as standard. A two-stage high-performance engine brake, combined with disc brakes on all axles, maximises driving safety according to the manufacturer.

The new Atego truck can also be fitted with an optional permanent magnet retarder, which is wear-free and provides good braking support.

Atego will launch in April at the CV Show 2013, at the NEC in Birmingham and sales are set to start from May 2013.
