Mercedes-Benz dealer Intercounty invests in customer service17 November 2011

Customers of Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealer Intercounty Truck & Van are benefiting from a series of investments at the company's Wellingborough headquarters.

After sales director Martyn Clipston says that visitors to its dealership on the Finedon Road Industrial Estate should be seeing improved efficiency and reduced vehicle turnaround times, as well as feeling a more pleasant experience.

Intercounty has spent nearly £50,000 in recent months on improvements at facilities at its Finedon Road dealership. Most of that money has been spent in the 24-hour workshop, where a new floor has been laid and colour-coded in line with lean working practice principles, to ensure best use is made of technicians' time.

In another move aimed at increasing vehicle uptime, Intercounty has installed its own rolling road commercial vehicle brake tester. Previously, the firm had to take trucks and vans elsewhere for testing, which was time-consuming and costly.

Clipston says Intercounty now plans to install a new, more powerful lighting system in the workshop.

"It's very gratifying to be investing in our facilities," states Clipston, "especially at a time when so many other businesses are unable to do likewise, often because of a lack of finance."

And he adds: "Ours is a pressurised industry in which many operators must deliver goods day and night to strict deadlines, so they are entitled to expect the very highest levels of service."
