Mercedes-Benz Vans to launch eVito in 201824 November 2017

Mercedes-Benz Vans has announced plans to offer all-electric versions of its light commercial vehicle range, starting with the mid-size eVito in the second half of 2018.

Other electric models to follow in 2019 will include the Sprinter and the Citan.

With a battery capacity of 41.4kWh, the eVito will travel up to 150km (93 miles) on a single charge – recharging takes around six hours.

Its 84kW motor delivers a top speed of up to 120kph (74mph) and 300Nm of torque.

The eVito can accommodate a maximum payload of 1,073kg and load volume of 6.6 m3. Maximum gvw is 3,200kg.

“We are convinced by the necessity of electric drive in our vans, especially in city centre applications. That said, electrification of the commercial fleet is not an end in itself, but follows the same principles as a classic drive when it comes to commercial feasibility,” says Volker Mornhinweg, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

“The eVito is the starting point and will be followed by our new-generation Sprinter as well as the Citan.”

The manufacturer says the higher price (than its diesel counterpart) will be offset by lower energy and maintenance costs, as well as tax savings.
