Merritts weighs in with £1.4m investment in vehicles and equipment22 October 2018

Heavy machinery transporter Joseph Merritt Group is investing £1.4 million in additional transport and lifting equipment, as part of its five-year growth strategy.

The Nottingham-based business has already taken delivery of four new Scania S500 tractors. Soon joining these will be four customised Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and four Hyster forklift trucks.

A £100,000 Nooteboom flatbed trailer is also on order for delivery in January 2019.

The company is also expanding its fleet of Versa-Lift forklift trucks, with another 60/80 model to lift machinery weighing up to 35 tonnes.

James Merritt, director, says: “We have ambitious plans for expansion over the next five years. We are investing in the equipment and people we will need to meet the growing demand for machinery movement services in the UK, Europe and beyond.

“It will also enable us to continue working for manufacturers who are moving factories or need to relocate machinery within their existing premises.”

Funding for the investment was provided by Santander. Joseph Merritt Group aims to increase turnover from £6m to £10m within five years, creating five more jobs at its storage and bonded warehousing facility in Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottingham.
