Michelin launches geolocation app for emergency tyre service18 January 2017

Michelin’s ONCall breakdown assistance service now features a geolocation app and a pay-as-you-go facility.

The ONcall app can be used across the UK and Ireland and, says Michelin, is the first smartphone tool of its kind to use geolocation technology to link commercial vehicle drivers with an emergency tyre replacement service.

Users open the app, enter their details and their location is automatically transmitted to a UK-based call centre – the ONcall team will know the precise location and a service technician can be despatched in the quickest time possible, says Michelin.

The service can be accessed with ONcall membership details, or drivers can provide credit card information for a call-out on a pay-as-you-go basis. The app will operate wherever the smartphone has a phone signal, regarding of whether the connection is 4G or traditional GPRS.

The app is free to download and available from the Apple and Google Play stores.

ONCall began as a pilot in the UK and North America, and is being extended to a further 34 European countries.
