The apps – called MyInspection, MyTraining, MyRoadChallenge and MyBestRoute – have been designed to incentivise fleet engineers, drivers and driver-trainers to improve performance.
MyInspection, for example, removes the need for paper-based vehicle checks: it guides the driver through each step of the vehicle inspection, following a list defined by the fleet engineer for each vehicle type. Photos can be used to help the workshop to plan repairs more efficiently.
MyRoadChallenge incentivises drivers with a points-based rewards system. An embedded algorithm uses GPS data from the driver’s smartphone, registers the quality of driving through acceleration and deceleration, and provides tips for drivers when improvement is needed.
Paul Davey, commercial director for Michelin Solutions in Northern Europe, says: “MyRoadChallenge is particularly interesting and exciting. It’s solely for the drivers. It rewards good driving behaviour and it’s a scheme designed for drivers to contribute not only to the company but also to themselves.
“It’s a points-based application, and it should lead to better efficiency in terms of fuel consumption, wear and tear and safety compliance – all the things that will go towards a company’s bottom line.”
MyBestRoute can calculate the cost of using different routes and the likely carbon emissions, based on vehicle type and load.
MyTraining, meanwhile, removes the paperwork headaches for driver-trainers, allowing them to concentrate on a driver’s performance rather than filling out forms.
Michelin Solutions says the apps are available to any operator, regardless of tyre policy.
