More transparency needed on forecourt fuel pricing - FairfuelUK11 November 2014

FairFuelUK is calling on the government to hold an independent enquiry into how petrol and diesel prices are set at the pumps.

In an open letter to chancellor George Osborne, the campaign organisers say there remains a "confusing disconnect" between the price of crude oil and forecourt fuel pricing.

FairfuelUK asked the Office of Fair Trading to investigate this issue in 2013, "but the OFT reckoned there was no case to answer," says campaign spokesperson Quentin Willson.

"The last week has proved there's still confusion and anger at the way fuel prices go up so quickly and fall so slowly, and the industry either needs to explain this complicated market to us clearly, or do the right thing and pass the falls in the price of crude oil to consumers much quicker than they do," he adds.

"Either way we need much more transparency."
