New CNG refuelling station open for business in Swindon14 July 2014

Logistics operator Howard Tenens has opened its fourth compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station, in Swindon – the largest CNG station to be built by a private transport operator in the UK.

At the official opening last week (10 July), conducted by transport minister Stephen Hammond, guests saw a refuelling demonstration on a range of gas vehicles.

The station can refuel up to 125 vehicles per day, and features twin compressors, three NGV2 dispensers for HGVs and one NGV1 dispenser for cars and vans.

Howard Tenens now has four CNG refuelling stations at its Andover, Boston, London (South Ockendon) and Swindon depots. All are open to other operators of natural gas vehicles.

Howard Tenens' fleet includes 59 dual-fuel vehicles, 22 of which are in service at its Swindon depot.

"By extending our refuelling infrastructure, we not only reinforce our commitment to dual fuel, but increase its availability to other third party operators who want to benefit from the technology," says Jamie Hartles, commercial and marketing director at Howard Tenens.

The Swindon facility was funded by the Technology Strategy Board, as part of the Low Carbon Truck Demonstration Trial Programme.
