New engine option for Volvo FL delivers 200kg additional payload26 November 2014

The Volvo FL, Volvo Trucks' urban distribution truck, is now available with a four-cylinder, 5-litre Euro 6 engine – which, says the company, gives a payload increase of up to 200kg.

The compact engine is offered in either 240bhp or 210bhp variants, and is available across the FL range, including the 14- and 16-tonne models.

The combined weight of the engine and gearbox, says Volvo, is 200kg less than its traditional six-cylinder Euro 6 option.

"The 5-litre engine may be a suitable option for those who would not normally use the maximum gross combination weight, but at the same time value the flexibility of being able to drive with heavier loads if required," says John Comer, product manager for Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland.

Separately, Volvo has also announced that its fleet management system Dynafleet can now be ordered as a factory-fit option for all truck ranges.
