New Longton Avia trucks coming to the UK soon 29 February 2012

April 4 2012 will see the launch of the new Longton Avia Truck company, offering British-designed mid-range trucks using many UK sourced components.

Based in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, the company reckons it's returning to British industrial roots and is aiming to provide transport operators with a flexible, robust vehicle – ultimately assembled in Stoke-on-Trent, probably in 2013.

Longton Avia's commercial director Jonathan Dale says it's about providing good value, good service and a nationwide network of maintenance back-up.

Behind the new company is a partnership deal with Avia, Ashok Leyland, which is part of the Hinduja Automotive Group, and currently manufactures the vehicles at its Prague, Czech Republic.

Dale says that Longton Avia will have the benefit of financial and technical support for development of new vehicle ranges for the UK and other markets.

The focus, he says, will be on incorporating the latest technologies, with the objective of reducing operating costs and cutting emissions.

"This is a business that will serve both the transport community and the local community well," states Dale.

"The time is ripe to bring together the skills we have in our workforce and to use those skills to enhance the range of medium sized trucks available to customers, all backed up by a national service network."

Rob Flello MP for Stoke-on-Trent, South and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Transport Freight Group, adds: "This is such exciting news for Stoke on Trent, as it will bring many new opportunities to the area and will give transport operators the ability to purchase a British designed and built, high specification vehicle."

And he continues: "It is anticipated that this initiative will assist in the regeneration of Stoke-on-Trent, ultimately not only from extra jobs, but by giving an extra boost to the existing automotive engineering industry – and be tangible support for the city council's strategy to create prosperity and quality of life by design for the people who live and work here."
