New Michelin deal for Blakeley’s Waste Management 26 July 2011

Wigan-based Blakeley's Waste Management has renewed a three year pence per kilometre (ppk) contract with Michelin, in a deal labelled by managing director Stephen Blakeley as a "sound commercial decision".

Blakeley's first moved to a Michelin contract in 2008 in an attempt to bolster tyre performance and reliability. This saw tyres being fitted and serviced by ATS Euromaster, following a period where the company purchased a mix of brands from local suppliers.

"Tyre choice is critical for a fleet operating in the waste sector," explains Blakeley, who runs a fleet of around 40 commercial vehicles. "The very nature of our industry means we are operating in environments with an increased risk of tyre damage."

Blakeley says he had previously suffered from frequent tyre-related downtime, but this began to drop noticeably with the Michelins.

"The peace of mind we get from Michelin rubber has been one of the driving forces behind our decision to renew this contract," he states.

The Blakeley's Waste Management fleet operates from an eight-acre site in Bickershaw Lane, Abram, where its in-house recycling facility is used to process commercial waste.
