Inspection tools for mobile work27 June 2018

Cardiff Bus (pictured) is introducing tablets for its workshop engineers in an attempt to reduce paperwork and improve the management of maintenance and compliance of its 231-strong fleet.

The real-time mobile working solution from Freeway Fleet Systems will eliminate paper forms, such as job cards and inspection sheets. Freeway’s software has already been implemented in the workshop and is used to schedule maintenance work, manage defects, parts and fuel spend.

The move is part of a wider strategy by the operator to boost efficiency with digital reporting.

In other news, telematics supplier Kinesis has launched a customisable mobile app for vehicle safety checks that provides live electronic updates to fleet management systems. The app has been designed to be easily configurable, with checklists and data fields that can be changed to meet differing needs.

Unlike the paper forms, the app allows instant updating of operational systems and provides data for maintenance management, alerting the workshop to defects that require attention. Data from the vehicle inspections is processed and presented in Velocity, the Kinesis fleet management portal. This web-based resource – which includes fuel management data – provides trend analysis of inspection records.
