Next Fiesta van sees improved fuel economy 02 January 2013

Ford has announced that all diesel engines powering its new Fiesta van will boast sub-100g/km CO2 emissions and enable the new vehicles to return more than 75mpg.

At the top of the pile is the Fiesta ECOnetic van, which will feature several other fuel-saving technologies to deliver 87g/km and 85.6mpg, a feat that Ford says no other manufacturer in the class can match.

The Fiesta van powertrain choice includes the new 1.5-litre Duratorq TDCi and 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi engines – both built in Dagenham – and the 1.25-litre Duratec petrol units, assembled at Bridgend.

The ECOnetic version offers a specially developed 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi powertrain with standard auto-start-stop, lowered suspension, aerodynamic rear under-tray and wheel trims, and low rolling resistance tyres.

"The new Fiesta van is a stylish mobile workshop for light duty tools and equipment that makes great business sense," says Mark Easton, Ford Britain light commercial vehicle product manager.

"Both local tradesmen and urban delivery fleets will appreciate its sharp, professional looks, while relying on its versatility, dependability and exceptionally low running costs," he adds.

At a practical level, load space is 1m3, and the load compartment features a secure steel bulkhead and four cargo tie-down hooks, both developed in accordance with the DIN standard. The van's load length of 1.3m and gross payload ranging from 485–508kg also means space for bulkier items.
