Nicol of Skene raises efficiency with second Volvo FH16-75004 December 2017

Civil engineering contractor Nicol of Skene has taken delivery of its second Volvo FH16-750 tractor, joining a fleet that includes several high-specification Volvo trucks.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North and Scotland’s Aberdeen dealerpoint, the Globetrotter-cabbed FH16-750 6x4 tractor was specified with an I-Shift Crawler automated gearbox and Volvo’s Tandem Axle Lift.

Volvo’s I-Shift Crawler gearboxes give a choice of one or two crawler gears, plus the additional option of extra reverse gears. The Tandem Axle Lift can be disengaged and the axle raised, when not required, delivering a 4% improvement in fuel consumption.

The latest FH16-750 also features Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels and extra driving lights, and will be deployed on low loader and tipping trailer operations.

Volvo’s strong fleet presence within the Nicol of Skene operation includes tractor units and rigid chassis that are complemented by three FMX-500 6x6 models, which are used on specialist directional drilling operations.
