Nissan’s NV400 range upgraded with new engines 26 September 2014

Nissan has upgraded the NV400 light commercial vehicle with new engine choices and a range of new features to boost, it says, performance and fuel efficiency.

Five dCi engines are now offered, all with a base of 2.3-litre, four-cylinder, 16-valve turbo diesel engine.

A pair of single turbo units delivers 110bhp (compared with 100bhp previously) and 125bhp, while a new pair of twin turbos gives 135bhp and 165bhp. Nissan is also offering a 150bhp version.

The new twin turbos are designed for vans or chassis cabs in heavy-duty or long-distance operations.

Improved fuel performance is promised from a small turbocharger to generate increased torque at low revs, in urban operations, while a larger turbo takes over for motorway use.

The twin turbo version also has stop-start technology and regenerative braking, thanks to a new energy smart system (ESM), which together give the 165bhp model fuel economy of 6.9 litres per 100km over the combined cycle – 1.5 litres/100km less than its 150bhp predecessor.

On-board driving aids include gear shift indicators and an ECO switch mode to limit harsh acceleration.

New to the NV400 is 'extended grip' – when deployed by a dashboard button, this optimises traction. Hill start assist and trailer sway control are two more additions to the vehicle. And the passenger version of the NV400 has a tyre pressure monitoring system, alerting the driver via a dashboard warning light.

The NV400 is available in front- and rear-wheel drive versions, three wheelbase options, four lengths and three heights. Cargo volumes are from 8 to 17 cu m.

In addition to factory-built panel vans, combis and chassis cabs for specialist bodybuilders, conversion companies offer crew vans, box vans, tippers, drop-side trucks and minibuses.
