OBE for Scotland’s traffic commissioner11 January 2019

Scotland’s traffic commissioner Joan Aitken has been awarded an OBE in recognition of her 15 years’ service as the country’s truck, bus and coach regulator.

During her term as traffic commissioner, Aitken (pictured) has presided over almost 2,000 public inquiries and has, in particular, focused on punctual and reliable bus services in the country, imposing financial penalties on operators failing to meet the required standard.

“I am delighted to have been honoured with this award and that it is for services to transport and road safety,” she said.

“I am proud and pleased that my commitment to safe working conditions for the haulage industry and its drivers has been recognised.

“Championing punctual and reliable bus services has also been at the heart of my endeavours for the travelling public in Scotland.”
