Operator buys into benefits of Mercedes after three-way trial29 November 2019

Renfrewshire-based operator A&D Logistics has acquired its first Mercedes-Benz vehicle, following a three-marque trial in which the Mercedes-Benz Actros came top on fuel efficiency, reliability and driver appeal.

Supplied by dealer Western Commercial, the GigaSpace cabbed Actros 2548 has a 12.8-litre, six-cylinder engine delivering 470bhp and, since its arrival six months ago, has clocked up 65,000km.

The vehicle is returning an average of 10.5mpg, “a good figure and better than anything else we have right now,” says Alan Bolsworth co-director of A&D Logistics.

“Mercedes-Benz now has a well-earned foot in the door, and we’ll certainly be giving its dealer a chance in 2020, when we come to consider our next round of fleet acquisitions.”

Eric MacLeod, the operator’s head of driver training, adds: “The high-tech features are very impressive but what really blew me away, coming from a driving background, was the sheer quality of the truck. Fit and finish are exceptional, the driving position couldn’t be better, and the doors shut with a satisfying clunk which tells you this is a vehicle that’s built to last.”
