Owens Road Services cuts costs and premiums with Verilocation 12 January 2015

Warehousing and distribution firm Owens Road Services has upgraded its Verilocation system to include 3G video streaming, after experiencing "significant" fleet efficiency benefits with the tracking and telematics technology.

The Llanelli-based haulier first installed Verilocation's system in 2012 after rapid business growth saw its fleet size double to 200 vehicles and 500 trailers.

After a trial, it implemented the telematics solution and integrated it with the existing traffic management system.

Real-time GPS tracking, says Owens has boosted fleet efficiency and service.

"The real-time vehicle tracking means we no longer need to call the drivers to find out where they are. This has significantly reduced both our communications costs and time wasted on the phone," says Ian Owen, operations director.

In addition, driver behaviour monitoring technology has enabled Owens to reduce fuel costs and target driver training where needed.

The latest addition of 3G streaming HD witness cameras gives Owens immediate access to video footage directly from the Verilocation web interface and, says the haulier, will further improve driver safety and behaviour, as well as reducing insurance premiums.
