Packaging business has fuel improvement wrapped up02 January 2014

Pallet and packaging business Scott Group has taken delivery of seven new Renault Premium 460.25 6x2 LD TML tractor units as part of a fleet replacement programme.

The Dunfermline-based company selected the vehicles after a trial showed fuel performance increased from 9.5mpg to 11.6mpg.

Group transport manager Alastair Burns (pictured) says a fleet review identified the potential for better returns: "These vehicles should give a saving on fuel consumption and reduce our carbon footprint."

Scott Group specified the Jost sensor fifth wheel for the new vehicles, after Burns saw the equipment at the Commercial Vehicle Show. "We wanted a system to aid the driver in the coupling process... This was not a standard option, but with the reliability of the Jost product and the improvement to safety, it was a system we felt it would be worthwhile investing in."

The vehicles are supplied by dealer JDS Trucks and are operating from five of Scott Group's UK sites.
