Parks of Hamilton chooses new Panther coaches09 September 2011

Ten 15m-long Plaxton Panthers have joined the coach fleet of Parks of Hamilton, for operation on Parks' own City to City express services.

The new tri-axle coaches are based on Volvo B13R chassis, and will replace the same number of 15m Panther B12BTs, which have been on the Parks fleet since 2007.

The new B13Rs are powered by Volvo's D13C 13-litre engine and, like the B12BTs they have replaced, incorporate Volvo's I-Shift automated transmission.

The new Panthers are air-conditioned 65-seaters with a rear-mounted walk-in washroom. They are wheelchair accessible with lifts incorporated in the main entrance. The front nearside seats can easily be removed when space is required for wheelchair passengers.

"We've had excellent service from the Panthers we took in 2007," says Parks director Michael Andrews.

"They have been reliable on what is a high-mileage operation, and are popular with passengers and drivers. We are looking forward to the same level of performance from our new fleet."
