Part of the COVID-19 effort – dealer testimony07 April 2020

Mike Parrish, parts advisor at Mercedes-Benz dealer Rygor Reading

Parts advisor Mike Parrish at Mercedes-Benz dealer Rygor Reading describes how it has been supporting customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He says: “Rygor Reading is a really close site and many of us have worked together for several decades. But now, teamwork is more important than ever before. We are supporting each other, to be able to support our customers, especially those who are critical workers.

“We understand the importance of keeping vehicles on the road at any time and especially now, so we are thinking outside the box when using parts stock. We already have systems in place to identify stock levels and reordering, but now we are being even more proactive and ensuring if any parts are in high demand that we look into stock holding and movement immediately.

“This means we can get parts into our workshops, vehicles maintained and back on the road, quickly, safely and efficiently. Commercial vehicles especially are working incredibly hard right now, so it is paramount that they are maintained correctly, ensuring they are safe and legal, and having the right parts available is an essential part of this.

“All our sites have dedicated parts drivers who not only deliver parts to our customers, but also move them between Rygor locations. This means our customers and workshops at specific sites can benefit from the stock held across our 10 branches.

“It’s at times like these when our team ethic really shows, as we all have a common goal to work towards. For example, I had an urgent call from a critical customer this week, who desperately needed to get their vehicle back on the road. I needed to source a gear lever as soon as I could. I’m not going to lie, it got the adrenaline pumping! Our Heathrow site was showing as having stock, so I got my parts driver, Martin, to go and collect it on his run, so we could have it back in the relevant workshop by the afternoon. It’s things like that I take immense pride in and I know my colleagues work to the same standards.

“I believe our role as a commercial vehicle business is extremely important in keeping Britain moving and I think there are a lot of very grateful people and organisations who can see this and have shown appreciation for what we are doing. In a time where people need to step up to the plate, I do believe that is exactly what is happening, and we are all pulling resources from every direction possible, to support the transport industry.”
