Passenger Plus expands Irizar fleet01 March 2019

Surrey-based operator Passenger Plus has taken delivery of two Irizar i6S integral coaches, to use on a commuter service for one of its corporate clients.

The 10.8-metre vehicles are among the first Irizar integrals in the UK to use the new DAF Euro VI C engines; both are equipped with the MX-11 270 powertrain, delivering 362bhp and driving through ZF EcoLife automatic transmissions.

The coaches are operating a 1.3-mile route between the client’s UK headquarters and the nearest railway station. Each coach completes the journey 30 times a day.

One of the coaches has a wheelchair lift, and passenger amenities include Bosch Smart Series Audio, Actia video and USB charging points.

The coaches have extensive external LED marker lighting, along with external and internal CCTV cameras.

Passenger numbers are monitored with electronic counters, and visitor passes can be scanned on boarding.

“Having the latest engine specification is important for us with the increasing focus on exhaust emissions in London,” says Mark Dury, managing director at Passenger Plus.

“We part-exchanged an earlier Irizar Integral against the new pair, which was the final Euro V vehicle in our fleet, making us now 100% ULEZ compliant.”

He describes Irizar’s aftersales service as “superb” and says the vehicles have good passenger appeal.

The coaches are expected to be in operation for four years; newly appointed local agent City Circle will carry out repair and maintenance.
