Penske Truck Leasing changes up to UltraShift HV transmissions 17 February 2010

More than 1,800 Eaton UltraShift HV-equipped trucks are scheduled to go into Penske Truck Leasing Co's consumer rental fleet in the second quarter of this year.

The US-based global transportation services provider says it has ordered the new Fuller UltraShift HV (highway value) medium-duty automated transmissions for use on International DuraStar trucks with MaxxForce DT engines. Truck production is already underway and is due for completion in May.

Marc Althen, senior vice president, administration and procurement, for Penske Truck Leasing, comments: "These transmissions provide Penske with solid value and the proven on-road performance our consumer truck rental customers need."

The UltraShift HV is a fully automated transmission aimed at Class 6 and 7 vehicles with diesel engines in the 195—260hp range. Eaton says it is capable of handling torque up to 660lb/ft and loads to 33,000 lb gvw.

That puts it in the pickup, delivery, service, utility and recovery applications vehicle range. It also suits organisations like Penske's, where reliability, driving ease and fuel efficiency are important.

Incidentally, the fuel efficiencies are real: in independent testing using SAE-approved protocols, the UltraShift HV demonstrated savings over a conventional automatic of 7—19%. And there are its no scheduled maintenance, no filter changes and lubed for life features to consider.
