Pirelli integrated transport claims enhanced HGV fleet efficiency 19 March 2013

Tyre manufacturer Pirelli has revealed a package of products and services that it says will help boost the efficiency of HGV fleets.

From a product point of view, the highlight is the Series 01 range commercial vehicles tyres that, says Pirelli, "combines contained running costs, safety and respect for the environment, thanks to a reduction in noxious emissions".

On the services side, the big news is the arrival of its Cyber Fleet System. This can measure tyre pressures and temperatures remotely, and communicate with devices at the depot to keep fleet managers aware of drivers' and tyres' performance.

Working via a sensor on the inside of each tyre – which collects data relating to pressure, temperature and identification – Cyber Fleet runs in both static and dynamic mode.

In dynamic mode, integration with a telematics system allows real-time data capture. Any anomalies in tyre temperature or pressure are signalled immediately to both the driver and the fleet manager.

Track and trace functionality is also available, which follows all information on each vehicle's tyres – including parameters such as distance travelled and speed.
