Plant hire business picks Sprinter for strength and durability28 October 2013

Bristol-based plant hire business Plantforce has taken delivery of its first Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 313 CDI vans.

The company has assigned the vans to mobile engineers who maintain its excavators, telehandlers and other equipment in the field from its Bristol and Exeter depots. The three vehicles were supplied by Mercedes-Benz of Weston-super-Mare with a five-year service package.

The medium-length vans were racked out by Motor On Services of Bristol to carry stock of spare parts and tools, and are also equipped with welding machines and sinks.

Plantforce selected the Sprinters for their strength and durability, making them ideal for high-mileage use and working on rough sites.

Managing director Claire Trott says the Sprinters have a higher spec and cab comfort than their previous vans, and deliver better fuel economy. She adds: "We rely on our mobile engineers to keep our machines up and running when they're out working in the most challenging of conditions," she says. "It's a tough job and their vans will be worked hard, covering up to 60,000 miles a year, so they must be able to last the pace."
