Private hire firm drives business with Mercedes New Vito Tourer21 July 2015

Private hire firm Arnald Cars has taken delivery of one of the first new Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourers, and says the ability to carry eight passengers is a key factor in the vehicle’s selection.

The family-owned, Dunstable-based operator derives much of its income from airport transfers to London Luton and the new addition is replacing a Vito Traveliner.

Supplied by dealer Hughes of Aylesbury, the extra-long 119 BlueTEC vehicle is specified with the Select package, which includes colour-coded bumpers and 16-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, parking package and electric sliding doors. The vehicle also has optional roof rails and fog lamps.

The new Vito is the first mid-sized van to feature a Euro 6 engine – in this case, a 2.1-litre engine delivering 190bhp – and delivers fuel economy of up to 47.1 mpg. It also has the first automatic gearbox for vans, the 7G-Tronic Plus, with a torque converter and seven gears.

The operator's previous Traveliner was a workhorse, says Colin Hall (pictured with wife Teresa): "That vehicle covered some 250,000 miles over the last three years and was impressively reliable and robust.

"But the New Vito represents a definite step up. Its extra seating allows us to carry up to four couples at one time, which means we can now accept bookings we might previously have had to turn down."
