Professional driver regulation: traffic commissioners launch consultation 13 July 2015

Beverley Bell, the senior traffic commissioner for Great Britain, has today (13 July 2015) launched an eight-week consultation on the regulation of professional drivers.

Mrs Bell is inviting views on proposed revisions to the senior traffic commissioner's Statutory Document on Vocational Driver Conduct, which was first issued back in 2011.

The consultation forms part of the traffic commissioners' strategic objectives for 2014—15, in this case to review and modernise the regulation of truck, bus and coach drivers.

"This consultation is a key part of our work around the regulation of [professional] drivers," comments Bell.

"I therefore encourage the commercial vehicle industry, stakeholders, safety groups and other interested parties to respond and help inform how traffic commissioners deal with the conduct of professional drivers."

The consultation focuses on aspects including decision-making, serious offending and informing professional drivers of standards.
