Prohire invests £1m to extend rental fleet03 June 2014

Commercial vehicle hire and fleet management business Prohire is investing a further £1 million to boost its rental fleet with 35 more vehicles.

This latest order follows an earlier investment of £2.5 million in February this year. According to the Stoke on Trent firm, the fleet expansion is to meet demand for spot rental.

The most recent acquisitions include: 7.5-tonne Iveco Eurocargo trucks; 18- and 26-tonne DAF curtainsiders; Mercedes-Benz Axor tractors; and 3.5-tonne Mercedes Sprinter vans with refrigerated bodies.

"Spot rental has become an increasingly significant part of our business," confirms Dan Stevenson, Prohire's rentals manager.

"Companies are beginning to feel that they are coming out of recession, but, in a lot of cases – particularly among third party logistics services companies – there is a reluctance to overstretch by buying, for example, a new £70,000 tractor unit to service a new contract. So rental options are particularly attractive."

Prohire has 300 vehicles available for spot rental, from car-derived vans to 44-tonne tractor units.
