Prohire’s new trucks to attract commercial vehicle drivers 01 December 2015

Prohire says that its recent multi-million pound investments in top of the range commercial vehicles will indirectly help its customer operators overcome the ongoing driver shortage issue.

The commercial vehicle fleet management and rental firm says its choice of high-spec vehicles – all the way from 3.5 tonne panel vans to 7.5—26 tonne rigids and 44-tonne tractor units – will appeal to drivers.

“The common thread has been specification enhancement,” states sales director Andrew Morley. “And the vehicle specifications we’ve stipulated across the board mean that when renting from Prohire customers have access to rental vehicles that drivers really want to use.”

He gives the example of its new 3.5 tonne Citroen Enterprise panel vans. “This specification includes air conditioning, rear parking sensors, cruise control with variable speed limiter and satellite navigation with a 5” colour touchscreen,” says Morley.

“And the 44 tonne units we’ve added to our rental fleet are top-of-the-range Mercedes Actros tractors fitted with BigSpace cabs,” he continues.

“They even have a fridge installed, which may not seem much, but to a driver on the road all day long it’s a much-appreciated comfort. It’s these touches that can make the difference when it comes to recruiting drivers.”

The Mercedes Actros tractors were also specified with Mercedes’ Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) for increased fuel efficiency, he adds.

“Fuel consumption is critical for operators so addressing this cost at the same time as making the vehicle attractive to drivers perfectly suits our customer focussed approach” asserts Morley.
