Quartet of XF105s for Vernon Land Transport01 June 2012
Bradford-based Vernon Land Transport has just bought a fourth DAF XF105 Super Space cab tractor unit. A 6x2 tractor unit plated at 44 tonnes, and supplied through local DAF dealer F & G Commercials, the 460bhp vehicle is employed on general haulage.
Equipped with an AS-Tronic automated box, it joins the three other recently-acquired XF105 Super Space cabs built to similar specifications but equipped with manual gearboxes and is set to cover 120,000km to 130,000km annually.
High-quality dealer support, competitive pricing and an attractive deal from PACCAR Financial were among the reasons behind the choice explains managing director Vernon Land.
Maintained by F & G, which operates sites at Huddersfield, Barnsley and Oldham, the DAFs haul a mixture of box, flat and curtainsider trailers.
"It's early days but I'm happy with the fuel returns we're getting," says Land. "The trucks are proving to be reliable – in fact they're doing a good job – and the aftersales back-up has impressed us too." Land continues: "Our drivers work hard, have to spend nights away from home and deserve some comfort. As a consequence of our approach we attract drivers who take a pride in their vehicles and really look after them."
