Race2Recovery’s Dakar hopes still alive with support truck10 January 2014

A disabled rally team is pinning its hopes for winning the Dakar Rally on its T4 race truck, after both its race cars were retired after stage 2 of the race.

Race2Recovery, a group of injured soldiers and civilian volunteers, had entered two cars and the T4 race truck into the 2014 rally – the main role of the truck was to support the two cars, a widely adopted strategy by many teams.

However, after both cars failed to complete the latest stage in Argentina, the team is now focusing its efforts on the Land Rover-sponsored race truck and attempting to complete the Dakar for the second year running.

The truck's crew almost missed the stage deadline to assist another team whose race car and support truck had become stranded. However, with the rest of the team waiting nervously, the T4 race truck finally arrived and kept Race2Recovery's Dakar hopes alive.

Driver and team founder Tony Harris congratulated his colleagues, saying: "Having to retire two race cars was a big blow, but the whole team committed to working as hard as possible to keep our T4 race truck in this year's Dakar.

"The crew did a fantastic thing, turning around to help another stranded team, and for that act alone they deserve to continue on this adventure."

Race2Recovery is supporting several charities, including Help For Heroes, Tedworth House, The Baton and Blesma.
