Ravensby Glass opens new relationship with Fraikin30 May 2017

Insulated glass unit manufacturer Ravensby Glass has taken delivery of five new trucks from Fraikin on a six-year contract hire deal.

The Dundee-based operator’s new additions – its first on contract hire – comprise two 18-tonne curtainsiders and three 18-tonne glass carriers, all specified on DAF chassis.

Key to the decision, it says, was Fraikin’s ability to take over vehicle ownership, financing, compliance and maintenance, so allowing Ravensby Glass to focus on its business operations.

“Fraikin showed early on in our conversations that they really understood our business, so the deal made perfect sense,” says Nicholas Cunningham, chairman at Ravensby Glass.

The trucks will be in operation up to six days a week and cover 60,000 miles each year. The DAF glass carriers have been built on full air suspension and with a special racking unit inside the load space to protect the glazing products during transit.

All vehicles are also equipped with on-board tracking systems to allow Ravensby to track payloads from collection to delivery.

Cunningham adds: “As we haven’t procured vehicles on contract hire before, Fraikin’s professional approach made the process very straightforward and easy to understand. We’ll certainly be looking at going down this path again.”
