Recycling business selects Mercedes-Benz Actros26 November 2013

London-based waste management company Powerday has taken delivery of a pair of Mercedes-Benz 8x4 Actros trucks.

Supplied by dealer Rygor, the Actros 3236K models with 360bhp engines and PowerShift automated transmissions, are operating from Powerday's headquarters in Willesden Junction.

One of the trucks has a steel Thompson tipping body and Palfinger Epsilon crane with grab. The other is fitted with Hyva hook-loading equipment and can handle 40 cubic yard roll-on roll-off bins – it can also pull a drawbar trailer with a second 'ro-ro' bin at a gross train weight of up to 44 tonnes.

Powerday owns and operates the largest materials recycling facility in southern England, at which it processes municipal, business, construction and demolition, and event waste. The company runs a mixed-marque fleet of 87 trucks. These include two 7.5-tonners and six tractor units, but most are 18- and 32-tonne skip-loaders, tippers and hook-loaders.

Operations manager Brian Hosford says Rygor's response to tender was the most competitive: "The dealer took me out to Germany to see the Mercedes-Benz factory and test drive the product. The manufacturer has clearly looked at this industry and developed a vehicle that meets all of our requirements.

"The Actros has a great reputation for reliability, while our new eight-wheelers are reassuringly solid and well-built. Rygor also managed the bodybuilding process for us – everything went very smoothly."
