Regulator scraps licence of Crofty Point Metals05 September 2017

Swansea scrap merchant Crofty Point Metals has had its licence revoked after it was found to have operated too many trucks, failed to carry out HGV safety checks and ran some untaxed vehicles.

Nick Jones, traffic commissioner for Wales, also disqualified director Cameron Collis for two years.

Another director, Robert Collis – who concealed his involvement in the firm – was banned for three years, and director Ainsley Collis was disqualified for one year.

The regulator ruled that Robert Collis had been acting as a shadow director of the firm, despite having had his licence revoked previously.

Jones said: “The failures identified ... are serious by any standards. These failures are rendered even more serious as a result of the fact that there has been a fronting exercise, an endeavour to deceive me and keep the controlling mind of the entity holding the operator’s licence away from the scrutiny of a traffic commissioner.”
