Renault new Master van – world debut at CV Show30 April 2014

Renault's new Master van made its world debut yesterday at the Commercial Vehicle Show, taking place at the NEC (29 April to 1 May).

The new Master large van range, says Renault, has more power and the 135bhp and 165bhp models have twin-turbo engines. Despite this, says the manufacturer, the Master can also return fuel savings of up to 7.3mpg, with a further 10% possible if the ECOmode option is deployed which adjusts torque and climate control/heater settings.

The 2.3dCi engine choice ranges from 110-165bhp, compared with 100-150bhp previously.

New features include ESC with load adaptive control as standard, as well as Hill Start Assist and Grip Xtend, both of which optimise grip on snow, mud or sand. Also, an optional wide view mirror can be incorporated in the passenger-side visor to eliminate the blindspot on that side of the vehicle.

If the Master's towing option is specified, it will feature Trailer Swing Assist, new functionality that detects trailer sway and, alternately, applies the brakes and limits delivery of engine torque until the trailer stabilises.

Another new development is a tyre pressure monitoring system – found in the Combi 6 and 9 seat versions – which warns of an underinflated or punctured tyre.

As with the previous Master range, the new model is offered in more than 120 versions with a choice of four lengths and three heights, panel van, crew cab, platform cab, chassis cab, tippers, dropside and box van, as well as front- and rear-wheel drive.

However, the new Master is now available in L4H2 and L4H3 panel van versions, with single rear wheels – an addition, says Renault, that will appeal particularly to long-distance operators and courier companies, since the wider space between the wheel arches means europallets can be carried at the back of the load area.
