Renault Premium Lander sets standard for PJ Webb 08 November 2012

South Wales aggregate transport company PJ Webb Haulage has taken delivery of its first Renault truck, a new 8x4 Renault Premium Lander 460, with Optidriver gearbox.

Phil Webb, who owns PJ Webb Haulage, says that, having seen the vehicle's outstanding performance, he has now ordered a second Lander for delivery later this year.

The tipper joins the company's seven-strong mixed fleet, transporting crushed rock, sand and gravel for aggregate suppliers, such as Hanson, Cemex and Tarmac.

It is operating across South Wales, predominantly in the Rhondda Valley and was supplied through Renault Trucks Cardiff.
.

"We were initially attracted to Renault because of the optional five-year warranty," explains Webb.

"After trialling a demo vehicle, however, we found that the quality and performance of the Renault Lander were outstanding – far better than any of the other trucks on our fleet. I couldn't fault it," he continues.

"The truck is well suited to our area of operation in the steep hills and valleys of the Rhondda, as the engine is powerful but economical.

"Fuel consumption on a stop-start basis is running at between 7 and 8mpg, about 1mpg better than other trucks on the fleet. Traction and suspension are also good, and the Lander's tight turning circle means excellent manoeuvrability on site."

But Webb reserves his greatest complement for the Optidriver automatic gearbox, which he describes as "particularly impressive".

"Unlike other marques on our tipper fleet, [it] gives a smooth gear change, easily selecting the right gear first time.

"Not only have we placed a second order but I have recommended it to a fellow operator who has since ordered two of the trucks himself."
