Renault Trucks prepares industry for new Euro 6 trucks 28 May 2013

As it prepares to unveil its latest tractor unit range, Renault Trucks says it has deployed "significant resources" to offer its customers vehicles with a high level of reliability.

Renault has revealed details of the test and development programme that its Euro 6-engined vehicles have undergone over the past seven years, with, it says, an emphasis on radical and exhaustive quality testing.

The French manufacturer states that it has embraced computer-assisted simulation, used test benches, track trials and pilot customers.

For example, a fleet of 300 vehicles has now covered 10 million kilometres in quality trials, as well as five million hours more on test benches – in temperatures ranging from -40° to +60°C.

Furthermore, no fewer than 50 international operators have tested the new Renault vehicles and provided feedback, which, says the manufacturer, enabled it to refine the design choices.

Additionally, Renault says it has installed new manufacturing resources in readiness for its new trucks.

This has led to a line of large presses being installed in Lyon to manufacture parts for the new cabs. Meanwhile, at Blainville-sur-Orne a new body in white line and a cab trim line has been set up.

The development line in Bourg-en-Bresse has now been operational for the past three years, with co-operation spanning the design office, technicians, engineers, production plants, product teams and aftersales.

Renault states that several hundred people are currently working solely on the launch of its new truck range. New manufacturing processes have also been introduced to achieve greater efficiency and safety, particularly around workstation ergonomics, it says.

The firm also says that parent company Volvo Group has been fully supporting Renault, with significant investment in the new Euro 6 range.

The new organisation, says Renault, will enable Renault Trucks to expand its geographical coverage, by increasing the number of sales and service outlets by 30 to 40%.
