Retail park takes second electric Alke truck22 October 2014

South coast retail park Hedge End Park has taken delivery of its second electric truck, an Alke ATX 110E with articulated trailer.

The vehicle joins another ATX, acquired last year. Both were supplied by ePower Trucks, Alke's UK dealer.

The Alke ATX 110E is a compact electric utility truck and is fully road-legal. It can cover up to 45 miles on a single charge and recharging takes eight hours.

The vehicle can also tow up to 2,000kg and has a payload of 500kg.

Hedge End's trucks are used primarily for shopping trolley collection across the 36-acre site, situated between Southampton and Portsmouth.

The business has also invested in a snow plough attachment, and specified a different trailer body for the latest addition.

"For the new vehicle, we chose a drop-sided trailer so we can also use it for landscaping as well as trolley duties," explains Stewart Kybert, centre manager for the retail park.

"Also, the plough gives us the capability to react very quickly to heavy snowfall, whereas in previous winters we were reliant on bringing in outside contractors to clear the roads and our 1,800 car parking spaces."
