RHA briefs industry on low-duty dual-fuel and gas-powered trucks 09 December 2013

Following the Autumn Statement, when the Chancellor announced that the duty differential between diesel and methane will be held until 2024 (with a review in 2018), the Road Haulage Association believes operators need to consider gas and dual-fuel trucks more seriously.

"[This] is likely to have a significant impact on the decision-making processes of many hauliers and on their cost base," said RHA director of policy Jack Semple at a briefing on gas trucks on 5 December.

"We know from member surveys that it will create new interest in the gas option... It is important that members are aware of the funding, technical, commercial and political issues surrounding gas that affect their businesses," he continued.

The Midlands-based briefing was supported by major industry players including DAF, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo Trucks and dual-fuel technology supplier Hardstaff Group.
